Boundary Bay Brewery advances in National IPA Championship!
Well, the results are in, and Bounday Bay Brewery‘s IPA conquered in the 2nd round of the IPA Championships…beating out the tough competitor of Bear Republic Brewing and their Racer 5 IPA. We won’t lie…we were worried! But, the judges in Grand Rapid Michigan decided that Boundary’s IPA would advance to round 3 so now we’re in the top 16 of the National IPA Championship. Round 3 is slated for March 7th in Philadelphia, PA. We’re up against Deschutes Brewery Inversion IPA. So, you’ve got a week. Go out and grab a Deschutes IPA and take home a 22 or a growler of Boundary’s IPA. Plan on a good long night of tasting and comparing these two great beers. In the official competition, all judges will be brewers. They will be organized into panels of 3, and given the task of choosing the best IPA between two beers. The judges will not know what beers they are being served. The majority rules on the voting. A steward serves the panel the two beers (Sample “Alpha” and Sample “Beta”) in clean, small cylindrical glasses. Each sample is a 3 ounce pour. Once the preferred IPA is chosen, the panel moves to the next sample. No panel will judge more than eight pairs. At the completion of the judging session, the names of the beers will be revealed to the panels and audience at large. Stay tuned in to our blog to find out who goes to the Final Four…obviously, we’re hoping we’ll be one of them! The championship round will be held in New York City, NY on March 21st. Here’s to good, healthy competition and great beer!
