Reading List for Books and Beers (Boundary Bay Book Club!)
The Boundary Bay Book Club…affectionately known as Books and Beers met for the second time last Sunday and finalized our book list for the rest of the year. It’s posted below so feel free to join in when you can or if you really love a particular book on the list but don’t feel like coming to all of the meetings. We’re pretty flexible about attendance…like most things here at Boundary Bay Brewery! One book will be discussed each month. Roughly the first half of the book will be covered in the first meeting of the month and the remainder of the book will be discussed at the second meeting each month. (By the way, the names in the parenthesis after each book just signifies who, in the book club, is going to be leading the discussion each month.) The Book Club meets every other Sunday at 2 p.m. in the back of our bistro (at least until it warms up some more…and then we’ll probably move down to the Beer Garden!) and snacks will be provided. Hope to see you there!
APRIL: Baron In the Trees – Italo Calvino (Ilana)
MAY: Down and Out in Paris and London – George Orwell (Ann)
JUNE: The Book Thief – Markus Zusak (Alexandra)
JULY: The Invention of Curried Sausage – Uwe Timm (Ceil)
AUGUST: 3 Cups of Tea – Greg Mortensen (Corey)
SEPTEMBER: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close – Jonathan Safran Foer (Amy)
OCTOBER: The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao – Junot Diaz (Teresa)
NOVEMBER: Captain Corelli‚s Mandolin – Louis de Bernières (Linda)
DECEMBER: Letter’s From The Earth – Mark Twain (Karl)
Taylor, I think the book club has kinda dwindled out…hard to keep the focus on the books and not just the beer! :) Will keep you posted if it picks back up in the new year.
Can anyone join the bookclub?
fyi, the November title is Corelli’s Mandolin in the American version. We’ll be sure the group is registered at Village Books; then “members” of the group will get a 15% discount on these selections.
