This is one of the biggest events of the year for Boundary Bay and we’ve got the whole weekend packed with fun, family friendly activities for all! Check out our event poster to find out what’s going on:

KIDS (referring to all you mature adults), this year it’s OUR turn to plan an EXTRA special day for Mom. Something fun of course, perhaps a bit unexpected, definitely tasty and something involving family. Most importantly, something that involves a free cocktail for Mom. We’re just kidding. But not really…she deserves it.

Bring your Mom, Stepmom, Mother-in-law, future Mother-in-law (et cetera) to the annual Boundary Bay Mother’s Day Brunch on May 12th from 10am-2pm. Make your reservation by calling us at 360-547-5593.

Here’s how it typically goes: Mom will be greeted with a FREE mimosa (duh!) and you and the fam will celebrate and toast to the amazing woman she is, and all she does. You’ll enjoy each others company, eat a delicious brunch prepared by the Boundary Bay Catering Team, and potentially save some ales — if you’re feeling up to it!

A talented and reputable chef, Martha was offered multiple positions around town as a Head Pastry Chef. When asked why she decided to take the offer at Boundary Bay, Martha stated: “When I met with Sean [Head chef] and Janet [General Manager], they said they wanted to change the whole dessert menu. They said I could bring out anything – create anything. I didn’t have to follow a menu or do the same things every day. It feels like it’s my own bakery. It’s a dream job.” Martha beamed. Boundary Bay is equally as excited to have Martha in the mix.

Since arriving at Boundary – Martha’s expertise, positivity and tantalizing recipes have quickly won over our staff. She’s been busy in the kitchen whipping up all sorts of new desserts — often allowing the staff to sample and choose their favorites! From Red Velvet Cheesecake to Coconut Pineapple Cream Pie, customers will be seeing more specialty desserts circulating our menu.

“Just the other day I tried making a four-layer chocolate cake with Ol’ Bounder (barley wine). Everyone was very excited…I guess it’s one of the strongest beers here!” Martha laughed, “Cooking with beer is new for me, and it’s very exciting!” And we can’t wait to see what sorts of delicious concoctions she’ll create using our ales!

A graduate of the Bellingham Technical School of Culinary Arts, Martha’s strong background and experience as a pastry chef is well-apparent. A talented Baker, Martha epitomizes her craft; the delicate combination of creativity, balance, and science. Next time you’re dining at Boundary, be sure to ask your server about our dessert specials. As Martha puts it “Once you see these desserts you’ll think, ohhh that looks SO good! And that’s it. You have to have it.”

If Martha were in an ingredient, she would be Vanilla. “It makes everything a little bit better.  Everything! Sweet, and adds a little something.”

Martha’s favorite berry to cook with is Blueberries. Just wait till you try her Blueberry pie!

Gardening is one of Martha’s favorite hobbies. If she isn’t experimenting with new recipes, you’ll find her outdoors.

Bellingham hosts a thriving community of artists, and those who live here, have likely seen the artwork of James R. Williamson gracing the walls of numerous local establishments. His work has generated a unique “style” of Pacific Northwest Art. The name Williamson has become synonymous with images epitomizing PNW landscapes, wildlife, but most notably, maritime subjects. A U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Strategic Air Command, his passion and dedication to this particular line of work has inspired many of his Maritime paintings of military ships, workboats lighthouses etc. His striking and memorable images embody an exceptional degree of clarity and emotion, shaping a new genre of PNW art that has attracted numerous clienteles. Williamson’s originals and limited editions hang in thousands of executive offices, boardrooms, bank lobbies, government buildings, restaurants and private residences throughout the United States and in several other countries. A longtime Bellingham resident and fellow Western Washington Graduate (1978), Williamson is considered an established local figure around town.

When asked how James got started locally he responded, “After my discharge form the Air Force I came to Bellingham to attend Western Washington University. I began painting fishing boats as a way to increase my income. The word got around that I could illustrate any subject. I began getting inquiries from local industry and architects requesting illustrations of their products, machinery, buildings, houses — and I also created illustrations for marketing. Local private art collectors began requesting my work. As James goes on to state, “I am creating artwork that is appreciated by workers and management of various industrial, military and business clients. It has been very encouraging and gives me confidence to continue.”

Now, the magnificent artwork of Williamson is on display right here at Boundary Bay. We invite you to stop by and take a look at the stunning pieces of art that hang on our Bistro walls. Williamson’s one-of-kind Original paintings, Remarque and Giclee editions are available for purchase, but he also decided to throw in a little something special us…each week we’ll raffle off a Limited Edition Print of his painting Lady Washington at Grays Harbor Lighthouse. Each 13”x19” print it signed and numbered by James, and placed in a mailing tube with the artist’s biography, print history and framing coupon. All you have to do is enter your name and phone number and place it in the raffle box in our foyer. Tickets to get on the Boundary Bay Bus to the Mariners Home Opener game cost $70.00 and include beverages on the bus, snacks for the game, plus raffles and Boundary Bay Brewery merchandise giveaways!  Come on up to the bar here at Boundary Bay Brewery to purchase your tickets.  Then, on April 8th, get to Boundary Bay by 4PM and be ready to board the bus at 4:20.  The game starts at 7:10pm, but the on-field festivities begin at 6:30pm. We want to make sure we have plenty of time to get down to Seattle for the pre-game festivities. We should get back to Bellingham around midnight. Get on the bus!

SATURDAY, MARCH 16th – PARADE DAY

The party begins at Noon on Saturday, March 16th with the St. Patricks Day Parade which marches from the downtown Cornwall Plaza to the Depot Market Square across from Boundary Bay. The public is encouraged to participate in the parade and no sign up is needed (unless you’re going all out and building a float or riding your horse!). The party begins immediately after the parade with FREE all-day entertainment and a BBQ in the Boundary Bay Beer Garden. Beer-enthusiasts are invited to visit their favorite ale houses and take a peak into ‘where the magic happens’. Brewers will offer behind the scenes tours and chat with visitors about their business. Start building your list of Q’s and get ready for a day of all things CRAFT!

Here at Boundary, the big event of the day will be our Imperial IPA Bottle Release. This only happens ONCE a year! Limited quantity of our Imperial IPA is bottled so we suggest you get ‘em now…or you’ll have to wait until 2014!

Now, we wanted to make sure you really enjoyed yourselves this weekend, so the Local Breweries of Bham have partnered up and rented the Baker Bus to transport you for FREE around town. The bus starts at Boundary every hour on the hour and will drive you from here to Kulshan, and on to Chuckanut Brewery. Every twenty minutes the bus will head to the next brewery (12:00 Boundary, 12:20 Kulshan, 12:40 Chuckanut etc. until 5PM). We want you to have a great time, but most importantly we want you to be safe! So take advantage of the Baker Bus and make sure you hit all the stops!

Jeff Kraus began screen-printing clothing as a student at WWU in 1994, later founding his company Naked Clothing in 1999. He grew his printing business by traveling the Washington coast selling his clothes at festivals all over the PNW region. Doing so, Jeff cultivated relationships with several local businesses and launched a custom screen-printing service on the side.  Boundary Bay met Jeff in 1997 and began what would define a 15 year partnership with Boundary. In 1999, the Boundary Save the Ales Hoody was born “and has been a fashion force of nature in Bellinhgam and beyond ever since” states Kraus. This classic design, offered in a variety of Tee’s, long sleeves, and sweatshirts are all custom printed by Jeff. He also prints our specialty beer shirts, like the Munzinger & Kegs and Couplers Tee’s.  As Kraus explains, he idealized a local community, “where small businesses, artists and musicians are abundantly supported — sometimes with the owner even hand-delivering your shirt!” This is exactly what Jeff has done for Boundary for the past 15 years and counting.

In the fall of 2012, Boundary partnered up with an up and coming screen-printing company, Hwy9 designs, who began printing our newest merchandise.  Hwy9 Designs is under the same ownership as the Bellingham VZ foundation, an organization whose mission is to put on fun, local events to bring together the Whatcom County Community. The VZ Foundation is all about supporting effective local organizations, to sustain our community’s economy – a standard Boundary Bay also values. We collaborated with Hwy9 designs in the fall with the launch of Boundary’s new motto BE[ER] LOCAL – a slogan hinting at the importance of purchasing local, and promoting local craft brewing. With fresh designs and a new look in mind, we’re excited about working with Hywy 9!

Hand-knitted scarves are one of the hot new items included in Boundary’s merch line. Produced by Ruffneck Scarves in Seattle, we introduced a custom Boundary hop-themed scarf (which conveniently happens to be Sounders colors). Ruffneck produces a superior scarf sewn by the same materials used for the pros; made from fine jacquard knit and high-quality 100% acrylic, the fabric allows very complex and highly patterned knits (like hops!) to be created. And here’s a fun fact; the founders of the company, Jeff McIntyre and Erin O’Brien, also happen to own our very own local Bellingham United Soccer team! Creating professional quality custom scarves, Ruffneck helped us create a distinct, practical and fashionable product unique to Boundary Bay. Distinctively branding businesses all over the region, Ruffneck scarves has done a tremendous job supporting the local economy with their growing business.

Although you cannot wear them, you can sure carry them in style. One of the products we’re most excited about presenting, are the custom-made Boundary Bay Growler Crates, laser engraved by the Bellingham High School Engineering Program. The High School’s wood shop was removed in its recent remodel, so funding themselves, the students of the engineering program, lead by director Paul Clement, have been working hard to rebuild access towards the technologies they once had. With each growler crate we sell, a portion of the proceeds goes back into the Engineering Club to support student involvement in engineering. The Growler Crate Project will specifically help these students purchase a 3D printer they’ve been saving up for, so they can learn about the future of rapid prototyping [A group of techniques used to quickly fabricate a scale model of a physical part or assembly using three-D computer aided design (CAD) data]. Boundary is very excited to be collaborating locally with Bellingham students on this project. Director Paul Clement even proposed that we work on more projects with the Engineering Program, suggesting they start performing the laser engraving on the new Hydro Flasks we currently sell. Clement advised they would be able to make a variety of designs, rather than just one – a possibility we were enthusiastic to hear! With propositions brewing daily, we are eager to work with Mr. Clement and this awesome group of talent.

“We love working with as many local suppliers and producers as possible,” says General Manager Janet Lightner. Here at Boundary, its important to us to implement whatever projects we can at the community level first. “We measure our success by the connections we build with our community of customers and neighbors who make it possible for us to keep doing what we love.”  We are thankful for these awesome local folks who have worked with us to build the Boundary brand, and equally stoked about the future endeavors we’ll take on with them.
