Firkin? Entschuldigung?

Boundary Bay Brewery will be celebrating Oktoberfest today, and to prove I am not making this up, here is the official poster:

Now if you have more than just glanced over the poster, your eye will have no doubt been caught by an unfamiliar word: Firkin. You gotta admit that it’s fun to say (pronounce it ‘fur-kin‘) and perhaps even makes you giggle a little (‘Firkin? I hardly know him!‘). But what the heck is it?
