For those who have read Tom Robbins, most follow him with slavish devotion…eagerly awaiting his next book, promising themselves that THIS TIME they will get a seat at one of his readings, that they WON’T read the whole book in one sitting! Well, you are in luck! Not only does Tom Robbins have a new book coming out, but he will be treating our community to a reading right here at Boundary Bay Brewery in our beer garden!
This is the bestselling author’s first work of fiction in five years and (lucky for us!) explores all aspects of beer culture “…ancient, modern, sophomoric, and divine.” The new book by Robbins, bearing the title B is for Beer is being marketed as “a children’s book for grownups; a grownup book for children.” In it, Tom writes about our planet where 36 billion gallons of beer are consumed each year. The book centers around a family living in Seattle and references icons of our Pacific Northwest culture like the Dawgs and the Woodland Park Zoo. “B Is for Beer involves readers, young and old, in a surprising, far-reaching investigation into the limits of reality, the transformative power of children, and, of course, the ultimate meaning of a tall, cold brewski.”
Tom Robbins will be here at Boundary Bay Brewery on May 7th, 2009 at 7:00 pm to read from B is for Beer. Tickets for the show are $7.50 and are available to purchase at Village Books and at Brown Paper Tickets. I’ll leave you with a quote from Tom’s new book to whet your beer loving appetites: “…when brewers combine hops with yeast and grain and water, and allow the mixture to ferment – to rot – it magically produces an elixir so gassy with blue-collar cheer, so regal with glints of gold, so titillating with potential mischief, so triumphantly refreshing, that it seizes the soul…”
