We here at Boundary Bay Brewery firmly believe in Happy Hour…that’s why ours happens every Saturday through Thursday from 4-6 pm. Not only can you enjoy $1 off your pints, but every Thursday we also feature a different Cask Ale during our Happy Hour. Cask ale is created by adding unfermented beer (wurt) to fermented beer. This naturally carbonates the ale. This method of brewing requires brewers to naturally condition the beer in a firkin or other vessels without artificially introducing CO2. Poured by gravity the result is smooth ale with a thick dense head that brings out full flavor. Tomorrow, we’ll be featuring our esteemed IPA…not to be missed!
Our IPA has a good body, a fairly strong alcohol content and an agressive fresh-hop quality. It is a very interesting beer and can be enjoyed by itself for its many interesting flavor highlights. We use Simcoe, Amarillo, Centennial Cascade and Crystal hops with Pale 2-row, Carastan, Crystal and Vienna malts. It’s probably our most popular beer! Besides winning numerous awards throughout the years, our IPA won BEST IPA “hands down” in this years Readers Choice Poll in Northwest Brewing News (NWBN), according to Alan Moen NWBN’s editor. And, a writer for Seattle Beer News just proclaimed in print that our IPA was his favorite beer on earth.
Our IPA has made it to the third round of the National IPA Championship…slated to take place this Saturday, March 7th. So far, our IPA triumphed over Hop Hog from Lancaster Brewing Co. and Bear Republic’s Racer 5 IPA. We’re up against Descheutes Inversion IPA next.
This is an excellent chance to get acquainted with one of the undeniable favorite Boundary Bay beers, but also to taste what a difference cask conditioning makes and to compare it to the IPA on tap you may already be used to. P.S. (if you find you enjoy contemplating the joys of cask ale…check out the Washington Cask Beer Festival that we’ll be pouring at on March 28th!)
We feature a different style each week. Get $1 off your pint Saturday thru Thursday, 4-6pm during our happy hour!
