The Glen Hay Falconer Foundation is a non-profit organization created to commemorate and celebrate the life, interests, and good works of a well-loved and leading Northwest brewer. Glen Hay Falconer began his brewing career as an avid home brewer and as a professional brewer, Glen continued to support the craft of home brewing by providing access to brewing ingredients, procedures and unique beer recipes. The name Glen Falconer is still known throughout the country as a passionate brewer who dedicated his life, knowledge and his friendship to brewers everywhere.
The mission of the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation is to contribute to the Northwest craft brewing community by providing opportunities for professional and aspiring brewers to further their knowledge and expertise. Part of the way in which the Foundation strives to fulfill it’s mission is by offering educational scholarships to an accredited brewing school. Since 2004, the Foundation has awarded fifteen full-tuition brewing education scholarships.
In co-sponsorship with the American Brewers Guild, the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation is offering a full-tuition scholarship to the Intensive Brewing Science & Engineering course (IBS&E). The program provides a comprehensive learning experience that focuses on the technical, scientific, and operational matters and issues that brewers face in a craft brewing environment. The scholarship is open to professional brewers and homebrewers from the states of Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii, and Northern California and the selection committee is comprised of professional craft brewers and brewing industry experts.
Anthony, one of our beloved brewers here at Boundary Bay Brewery is applying for this scholarship in hopes of furthering his own brewing education.
Located in Eugene, Oregon the Sasquatch Brew Fest started as a tribute to the passing of Glen Hay Falconer; a friend, active community member, and professional brewer. This Brew Fest showcases the vibrant Pacific Northwest brewing industry by offering an opportunity to taste unique craft beers and invokes the spirit of the legendary Sasquatch (Glen’s nickname) and the memory of Glen Falconer. It has evolved into one of the premier beer festivals in the Pacific Northwest and is a showcase of not only craft brewing, but the educational and community spirit envisioned by all who knew Glen.
Designed to showcase Pacific Northwest craft brewing, the Sasquatch Brew Fest allows professional brewers to ‘show off,’ by featuring unique specialty beers each selected by a professional brewer to honor Glen’s memory. The festival also includes a homebrew contest is administered by the Cascade Brewers Society, a homegrown cult of veteran beer geeks. A large portion of the proceeds will be provided to the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation, a non-profit organization staffed by Glen’s family with a mandate to support craft brewing by providing brewing scholarships. Additional funds obtained from the beer bash will be presented by the Northwest Legends Foundation to Eugene-based non-profit organizations – again – in memory of Glen.
