Harvest Rye is on Tap! What’s different than last year? The rye!
Rye beer refers to any beer in which rye (generally malted) is substituted for some portion of the barley malt. A little bit of rye goes a long way in creating complex beers, and according to an article in Imbibe Magazine, brewers nationwide have begun embracing the grain, which can add sharpness, subtle spiciness and dryness to beer styles. Similar to a wheat beer, lighter bodied and somewhat dry, rye beers tend to have a nice head and a slightly spicy, somewhat grainy flavor. The rye flavors emerge distinctively, and usually, most noticeably at the finish.
Celebrate autumn with the flavors of Rye and Malted Barley! Pale 2-Row, Dark Crystal, Carastan, Munich and Chocolate malts, along with rye ,were “harvested” from an extra log boil in the kettle and balanced with Centennial and Cascade hops. The result; to produce an ale akin to an “Oktoberfest” style with predominate malted barley and rye flavors and that classic red-orange hue.
