Get Green at Boundary Bay’s Earth Day

Posted on April 7, 2010 by Boundary Bay

“At a conference in Seattle in September 1969, I announced that in the spring of 1970 there would be a nationwide grassroots demonstration on behalf of the environment and invited everyone to participate. The wire services carried the story from coast to coast. The response was electric. It took off like gangbusters. Telegrams, letters, and telephone inquiries poured in from all across the country. The American people finally had a forum to express its concern about what was happening to the land, rivers, lakes, and air – and they did so with spectacular exuberance. For the next four months, two members of my Senate staff, Linda Billings and John Heritage, managed Earth Day affairs out of my Senate office.” By Senator Gaylord Nelson, Founder of Earth Day

This April marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day and we are throwing a party here at Boundary Bay Brewery to celebrate!  Join us on Thursday, April 22nd for a BBQ in the Beer Garden, live music by Robert Blake and an Earth Day inspired Sustainability Fair!

So far, we have organizations like WTA, Smart Trips, the Pro Transit movement, Sustainable Connections and Make.Shift involved.  We also have Grow Northwest (a brand new publication focusing on local eating, DIY crafts, etc.) coming to debut their magazine.  We’ll be raffling off bus passes and giving workshops on how to fix bike flats.  We’ll have a bike loaded up with groceries for people to try riding around the block and a bike generator that lets people produce their own energy to light up the attached bulbs.  We also have Ralf’s Bavarian Bakery coming to exemplify a small, local business who uses only organic, local ingredients and runs his business in the most sustainable way possible.

We’re hoping to have other local businesses on hand like Cloud Mountain Farms, Barlean’s Fishery and Uprising Seeds.  We want to make this an afternoon of raising the awareness of what great local options we have for making sustainable choices.  Becca Shwarz Cole, co-publisher of Grow Northwest, says “The Northwest has so much to offer in terms of food production, sustainable living and the DIY ethic.  There is real passion here for supporting the local economy and those who grow, make, produce and create.” And that’s exactly what we want to celebrate on this 40th anniversary of Earth Day!  Join us.   Thursday, April 22nd, 4pm.  All ages.  FREE!

PIONEERS OF BELLINGHAM BEER!

Boundary Bay Brewery opened in 1995 and we've been Saving The Ales ever since!

We pride ourselves on making great handcrafted beer and fresh, local food for the Bellingham community.

Our brewery, which houses a Tap Room and a family friendly Bistro, is located in a historic 1922 warehouse in Downtown Bellingham, across from the Saturday Farmer’s Market.

We also have a great deck for outdoor dining and a Beer Garden where you can enjoy BBQ's and outdoor concerts in the Summer. You can see why this is where the locals love to go!

We work hard to brew great craft beer and we've been recognized with over 70 awards for our handcrafted beers over the years. Come see what makes us so special!
