Irish Dancing and Corned Beef

Posted on March 12, 2012 by Boundary Bay

It’s St. Patrick’s Day this Saturday and we’re going to be celebrating in a major way here at Boundary Bay Brewery!  We’ll open as usual at 11 am and have a full day of fun planned to entertain the whole family!  Please be aware, though, that we have dancers and other performances happening throughout the brewery that day, so we won’t be able to rearrange tables to seat parties larger than eight  people.  Large parties are welcome to split into smaller groups or to stay together down in the Beer Garden.

We’ll have a special menu of Irish Fare that will replace our regular menu for the day.  So, instead of your usual Yam Alechiladas, you can feast on a few of our regular standbys like our House Salad, Caesar salad and Pepperoni or Cheese pizzas or head down to the Beer Garden for BBQ.

But why not enjoy some festive faves like Corned Beef & Cabbage, Shepherdess Pie or one of these other delicious meals?

House Salad – Mesclun greens, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers & croutons with your choice of dressing: bleu cheese vinaigrette, alehouse, caesar, or Thai vinaigrette.  Beef it up by adding grilled chicken or Tempeh.

Caesar Salad – Romaine, parmesan cheese & croutons tossed with caesar dressing, topped with fresh lemon & cracked black pepper. Add grilled chicken or Tempeh to make it a meal!

Irish Stew – A warm & hearty compilation of vegetables, potatoes & tender chunks of beef simmered together in our Scotch Ale.

Smoked Salmon Chowder – Potatoes, smoked salmon, carrots, celery & onion in a rich cream base with fresh baked bread.

St. Patty Melt – 1/3 pound of natural black Angus beef, char-broiled and served on caraway rye bread with caramelized onions and melted Swiss cheese.

Rueben – Seared corned beef on marbled rye made locally by Avenue Bread with sauerkraut, Russian dressing, melted Swiss cheese & your choice of roasted potatoes, house salad or Tim’s potato chips.  Or make it vegetarian with Tempeh!

Cured Salmon Sandwich – Irish Whiskey cured Sockeye salmon sliced thin and served on a locally made ciabatta roll with sliced tomato, caper cream cheese and pickled asparagus.  Served with your choice of roasted potatoes, house salad or potato chips.

Corned Beef & Cabbage – corned beef brisket braised in Amber and Scotch Ale, served with braised cabbage, carrots and red potatoes

Sheperdess Pie – a vegetarian version of shepherds pie with red beans, carrots, celery, mushrooms, peas, corn and pearl onions.

There’ll be free entertainment all day in our brewpub: from Irish Dancers to bagpipers to traditional Irish tunes.

And, after the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade at Noon, there’ll be a Post Parade Party in the Beer Garden with live music from 1-5pm with BBQ food available.

Robert Blake and the Paddy Whackers will play later in the night for a $5 cover (21+ only!).  And, of course, special appearances from The Bellingham Firefighters Pipes and Drums throughout the day!

All ages are welcome in the Bistro and Beer garden till 9pm. 21+ in the tap room.

Everybody’s Irish at Boundary Bay Brewery!

Posted on March 2, 2011 by Boundary Bay

I don’t know, maybe it was all the Cabin Fever, but somehow this Winter seemed to fly by and I’m finding it hard to believe it’s already March.  It’s a busy time for us around the brewery as we prepare for St. Patrick’s Day…the BBAY way!

the Penk O'Donnell Dancers at Boundary Bay Brewery

If you haven’t yet celebrated St. Paddy’s Day with us here at Boundary Bay Brewery, you are missing one heck of a good time!  The fun starts right when we open our doors at 11am.  We’ll be serving up a special menu of Irish Pub Fare and pouring some special limited edition beers.  As for entertainment, we’ll have Bagpipers and Irish Dancing from the Penk O’Donnell Dancers and the McGlaughlin Dancers performing throughout the day in both the Tap Room (21+ only) and in the Bistro where families are always welcome!  Dance performances take place at 12:30 , 2:00 (McGlaughlin), 4:00, 6:00, 8:00 and 9:00 (McGlaughlin).  Then, around 8 pm, The Paddy Whackers will be joining the party!  They’ll be performing their living Irish tunes in the Tap Room ($5 / 21+ only) and we’ll bet you won’t be able to stay in your seat so come prepared to kick up your heels!  But, before all the festivities go down on the big day itself (Thursday, March 17th), there’s all kinds of Irish celebrating to do the weekend before to get you in the mood!

Boundary Bay Brewery in 2010 Parade

Saturday, March 12th is Bellingham’s 2nd Annual St. Patrick’s Day parade!  If you somehow missed the parade last year we strongly encourage you to not make the same mistake again this year.  Lots of local businesses, schools and organizations – plus bagpipers, cheerleaders, bands and dance troops – will be coming together to march down Cornwall Avenue at noon.  Yes, it’s a St. Patrick’s Day parade so there will be plenty of shamrocks and leprechauns and people wearing green.  But this parade is also a chance to honor Bellingham’s law enforcement and fire departments and a moment for the community to come together and celebrate all the cool people who make Bellingham such a great place to call home.  For more details on the parade route, the businesses that have signed up for the parade already and information on how YOU can be part of this year’s parade, check out the Bellingham St. Patrick’s Day parade website.

If you’re looking for the lazy man’s way to prep for the parade, then just swing by the brewery to have a pint and catch some traditional Irish dancing on Friday, Saturday or Sunday!  The Penk O’Donnell dancers will be kicking up their heels at Boundary Bay Brewery at 6:00 and 8:00pm on Friday, March 11th and at 1:00, 5:30 and 8:00 pm on Saturday, March 12th…not to mention 6:30 pm on Sunday, March 13th!

We’ve got a whole day of fun planned at Boundary Bay Brewery on parade day!  If you’re an early riser, come pre-funk with us before the parade at our Paddycakes Pancake Breakfast.  It’s an all you can eat pancake feed in our Beer Garden and the whole family is welcome.  $7 (kids 5 yrs. and under are free) gets you bacon or sausage and coffee, juice or tea plus all you can eat pancakes! And there’ll even be live music by The Mad Haggis! We’re serving up breakfast from 9-11am so you’ll still have time to go find a good vantage spot to catch all the action on Cornwall before the parade starts at Noon! Call the brewery at 360-647-5593 to make your breakfast reservations today!

After the parade, it’s back to the Beer Garden for BBQ, beer and lots of live music!  Families are welcome and there’s no cover, so bring the whole gang down and enjoy live music by Giant’s Causeway (1:30-3pm), Muddy Boots (3:15-4:45) and Whiskey Galore (5-6:30).  Hope to see you there!  Cheers.

Kick Up Your Heels at Boundary Bay Brewery

Posted on March 10, 2010 by Boundary Bay

We’re getting ready for St. Patrick’s Day around here!  Our decorations are up, the Dry Irish Stout is ready and we just got our schedule for all the Irish dancing that’s going to take place right here in our brewery.  Join us for lots of fun and experience a “reel” Irish St. Patrick’s week with local Irish dancers, a special menu and live music by The Paddy Whackers and James Higgins!

The Penk O’Donnell Irish Dancers will be dancing at  Boundary Bay Brewery in multiple shows from March 12th – 17th. The dancers belong to the Penk-O’Donnell School of Irish Dance based in Vancouver, B.C.  Each of these young ladies has excelled in international competitions over the years competing in regional, national and world championship competitions.  They have traveled to Ireland, Scotland and throughout North America to attend competitions.  The scheduled performances at Boundary Bay Brewery are:

Friday, March 12th: 6pm and 8pm

Saturday, March 13th: 4pm, 6pm and 8pm

Sunday, March 14th: 6:30 pm

Wednesday, March 17th – ST PATRICKS DAY: 12:15 pm, 6pm and 8pm

For almost a decade, the Boundary Bay Brewery has featured this group of local Irish dancers during its St. Patrick’s Day festivities.  The Brewery has served as a welcome venue for the girls to share their Irish heritage and treat patrons to some of the finest expeditions of traditional Irish dance in North America.  It has also provided the girls an opportunity to raise some much needed funds to support their travels.  This year marks the tenth year the dancers will appear at Boundary Bay.

Come celebrate St. Patrick’s Day here at Boundary Bay Brewery with us!  Enjoy local Irish dancers and a special menu featuring traditional favorites like Sheperdess Pie, Corned Beef and Cabbage and a Cured Salmon Sandwich.  There’ll be some of our usual fare (like pizzas and salads) on the menu too if Irish food isn’t quite your cup o’ tea!  And don’t forget to try our Dry Irish Stout with a small amount of sour mashed pale malt combined with a generous dose of roasted barley and fuggles hops.  This lighter bodied Dry Irish Stout has a  silky body and session beer qualities, plus it’s served on nitro for maximum smoothness and dense creamy head!  Slàinte.
