What’s Not to Love?

Posted on November 3, 2011 by Boundary Bay

Bread pudding is a dessert whose popularity has spanned many cultures – including France, Belgium, Mexico, Argentina, Great Britain and the southern United States.  It’s obviously a bread based dish, but in a number of other languages, the name of this dessert translates to bread pudding, just pudding or sometimes even just crumbs.

For lots of us, it’s become a comfort food favorite and a dish that reminds us of the kitchens of our grandmothers and mothers.  It’s a dessert to savor…to warm you up…to soothe the soul.  And we’ve got our own version of this classic dessert here at Boundary Bay Brewery now that we’re entering into the chilly late Autumn months of the Pacific Northwest.

The Boundary Bay Brewery bread pudding features white chocolate custard and raisins to make this classic dessert stand out.  We serve it on a bed of our chocolate ganache and drizzle it with a crème caramel.  It’s especially delightful when paired with a pint of our Dry Irish Stout or our Oatmeal Stout since the roasted malts in either of these beers balance out the bread pudding of the dessert perfectly.

The Dry Irish Stout is made with a small amount of sour mashed pale malt combined with a generous dose of roasted barley and fuggles hops.  It has a silky body and session beer qualities and we serve it on nitro for maximum smoothness and a dense creamy head.

Our Imperial Oatmeal Stout is a black, very rich and full-bodied stout with a silky smoothness that gives way to a long “roasty” finish.  But, be warned, this is a heavy weight monster of a beer, so if you want to take it easy remember that we serve schooners too!
