Truly Local Love

Posted on December 20, 2011 by Boundary Bay

artist, Evan Whitehead

Here at Boundary Bay Brewery, we like to devote our wall space to featuring artwork by local artists.  This winter, we’re lucky enough to have paintings up in our Bistro by outdoor enthusiast, Evan Whitehead.  Come enjoy a pint of Cabin Fever and check out Evan’s Mt. Baker-inspired paintings while sipping our Winter Warmer.

Here’s what Evan has to say about his art:

“As a born and raised local of Whatcom County, I have grown up around the mountains to islands, and am constantly sharpening my focus towards our pristine backyard.  Through my years of painting, I have always focused on the mountains in which I spend my time.  Continuously studying the details of these incredible landscapes, my painting style has progressed as I continue to refine my artistic visions.  My aspirations as an artist are for the viewer to connect with the art, to trigger a memory that would take them to a new yet familiar place, a happy place where they can get lost in the painting.

As an avid boarder, I have been focusing a fair amount of work towards paintings that would make a good graphic that would inspire someone if it were on their board or skis.  Certain board graphics have inspired me through the years and to be able to do that for others would be groovy.  Among other directions I’m pursuing are the glow in the dark paintings that make great night scenes, or the underwater fishy seascapes, I enjoy viewing my work in its originality and uniqueness.

My goals for my painting is to continue to strive and grow as an artist, for all to see and admire, and to search out all possible avenues to display my art to the masses.”

You can view Evan’s artwork here at Boundary Bay Brewery through January.  Or check out his website to see all of his work, purchase a painting or two and find out more about Evan and what inspires him.

Fundraiser for Daner

Posted on March 24, 2011 by Boundary Bay

One of the best things about working for Boundary Bay Brewery is that this business really believes in creating and sustaining real relationships – with the community at large and especially within their own staff.  Rather than a group of employees, this place operates more like a family and it is in times of crises that the family really pulls together.

Our employee and friend, Dane Whitehead, was hurt in a skiing accident on Mt. Baker and needs our help now. We’re coming together and throwing a big fundraising party at Rumors (our next door neighbor!) tomorrow night to help offset the expenses of his accident.

We’ve got DJ Shortwave and DJ Postal who will be spinning tunes all night and we’ve asked lots of local businesses to donate great stuff to be raffled off.  The party doesn’t officially start till 10pm, but raffle ticket sales will start around 8pm.  All proceeds from the $3 cover and the raffle ticket sales will go directly to Dane.

Please come out and enjoy a night at Rumors tomorrow night to help Dane!  Come dance, have fun, maybe win some great stuff in the raffle and help raise money for a friend in need.  We appreciate all your support!  Thank you to Evan Whitehead, Dane’s talented brother, who provided the painting used in the backdrop of the poster above and has also donated a painting to the raffle.  And we’d also like to thank Rumors for hosting our fundraiser (since there’s way more room to dance!!) and for donating all of the money from the door to Dane.  It is in times like these that the strength of our community really shines!

Art at Boundary Bay Brewery Celebrates Mountain Life

Posted on January 13, 2010 by Boundary Bay

At Boundary Bay Brewery we believe in food experiences.  We believe that it’s about the whole package…not just what’s on your plate.  So, we’ve made it our mission to make your Boundary Bay experience a multi-faceted affair bringing together good food, great beer and community events.  One of the ways we’ve found to support our community is to bring local artists and musicians into our brewery to expose the public to their work and to provide a space for them to showcase what they do.

This month, we are quite lucky to currently be showing the FIRST gallery show Evan Whitehead has ever done.  Yes, looking at his work, we too find that hard to believe! But, it’s true…this great Northwest artist has been hiding his love away!  But the secret’s out now…and Evan’s work is fully on display right here in the Bistro at Boundary Bay Brewery.

Freelance artist, Evan Whitehead, is native to Bellingham and grew up in the foothills of the North Cascade Range.  Evan has long called Bellingham his home and Mt. Baker his backyard and feels fortunate to have grown up in this place of natural beauty and inspiration.  Being a natural explorer, hiker and avid snowboarder, Evan decided to focus his art on the natural presence of Mt. Baker’s beauty and individualism.  He has managed to portray the mountain in many stages of beauty and in all kinds of light – all rendered in acrylic on a variety of surfaces including wood, canvas and rocks.

Come check out Evan Whitehead’s work and revel in the beauty of this incredible place we live in!  If you love the outdoors, if you snowboard, if you love local art…heck, if you just love beer and need something to look at while you drink…come down here and check out this awesome art!!  Cheers.

And if you like what you see, contact Evan at evanwhitehead@yahoo.com (36)303-1794.
