This Friday, August 13th, the Pickford Film Center will be hosting their annual Bike In on Bay Street event! This event is co-produced by the Pickford Film Center and Mount Bakery…and sponsored by EverybodyBIKE and Smart Trips.
Not only will it be a great night of cycling culture, but it is also part of the Capital Campaign to build the new Pickford. Want to know how you can help ensure a lively, creative, artistic community right here in Bellingham for years to come? Well, you can help the new Pickford open it’s doors by donating directly to the campaign, or you can attend one of their incredibly fun fundraising events…like the Bike In on Bay Street this Friday!
From 6-11 pm on Bay Street (in front of new Pickford Film Center and American Museum of Radio & Electricity) you’ll find a Bicycle Show n’ Shine, movies, beer garden with Boundary Bay beer, food by Mount Bakery, live music and printing by Innate, and tours of new Pickford Film Center !
The 2010 Bike In on Bay Street will feature a selection of the best bike themed short films from the Northwest and beyond. Expect to see international and locally produced films that explore the cycling imagination through animation, humorous tales, and crazy stunts (a compilation of crowd favorites from the last six years of Filmed by Bike). But that’s not all! Prizes will be given for Best Vintage Classic (before 1980) – Original or restored classic bike, Best Special Custom – Hand-built, novelty, multi-wheeled, tall, circus bikes and Best Decorated Bike – Any type or year of bike decorated with streamers, paint, lights, cards. Don’t miss this awesome spectacle!
The Pickford Film Center was founded in 1998 by a small group of local film fans dedicated to making high-quality cinema available in Bellingham and the entire Whatcom County region. Their mission is to provide a forum and resource for independent cinema and to strengthen the community through education, dialogue and the celebration of film. PFC offers year-round, independent, foreign and documentary film and related special events. In addition to daily film programming PFC offers:
- NW Projections Film Festival a spring celebration of regional film attracting student and professional filmmakers from Seattle to Vancouver
- The 65 Hour Guerilla Project a filmmaking competition for high school students
- Doctober a month long, international documentary film series
- Children’s Film Festival an annual hands-on creative celebration that includes arts workshops and free screenings for at-risk youth
- Traveling Pickford Show Outdoor Cinema a summer program of family friendly films in and around the community
Slated to open in late 2010, PFC will serve as a community living room, situated at the epicenter of the Arts District in downtown Bellingham. The new film center will allow PFC to better fulfill a core mission of the organization – providing our community with the highest quality movie-going experience possible at an affordable price. The Capital Campaign to build PFC has raised over $3 million of its $3.25 million dollar goal and construction is now 70% complete. Help us open the doors of Pickford Film Center by pledging or donating today.
