You might of noticed a lot of NFL players wearing pink on Sunday because of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I did a little googling because I thought “what a great idea, I wonder what started it” and I thought “what are they going to do with all that pink stuff when the month is out?”. I found out that a particular player, Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams has started his own movement, because of his own family’s experience with the disease. His Mother was diagnosed and is now in remission and her three sisters died of breast cancer. His foundation, deangelowilliams34.com, is devoted to seeking an end to breast cancer and to financing treatment for women who cannot afford it. The NFL has started a campaign called “A Crucial Catch”, in partnership with the American Cancer Society. Throughout October, NFL games will feature players, coaches and referees wearing pink game apparel. All apparel worn at games will be auctioned off at NFL Auction (www.NFLAuction.NFL.com), with proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society and team charities.
Coming up this weekend you can make a difference in your own community and help raise awareness about Breast Cancer. On Saturday, October 10th, 2009 @ 10am Kulshan Cycles will be hosting it’s first Breast Cancer Awareness Ride. The race will start and end at Boundary Bay Brewery for a 10 mile ride/parade on the Interurban Trail. This will be a fun family event and everyone is encouraged to participate. Decorate your bike & wear some pink. You’ll need a bike you can ride on a gravel path. PLEASE PRE REGISTER ASAP @ www.kulshancycles.com. The 10 mile ride fee is $25, but please donate more if you can.
