A Week of Spooktacular Fun at Boundary Bay

Posted on October 26, 2009 by Boundary Bay

Here at Boundary Bay Brewery, we really don’t need much of a reason to celebrate.  We love doin’ it up right!  And that applies to Halloween too!  We’ve got lots of ways to celebrate…

On Friday, On Friday Oct. 30th (from 5:30-10pm) you can kick off the festivities a little early and get your spook on in our Haunted Beer Garden put on by the Bellingham Roller Betties.  Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for kids under 12 with all the proceeds from the ticket sales going to the Roller Betties and all their roller derby madness!

From 2-5pm, on Halloween (Saturday, Oct. 31st) you can bring the little ones into downtown Bellingham where you can trick or treat at various downtown businesses…including Boundary Bay Brewery.  You can get maps of participating businesses throughout the Central Business District or by contacting the Downtown Bellingham Partnership.

And last, but certainly not least, you can join us for one heck of a party on Halloween night!  Sugar Sugar Sugar, Lozen, Dog Shredder and the Pasties are going to be rockin’ the brewery and costumes are most definitely encouraged! The show starts at 10pm and it’ll cost you just $6 to get in.  But beware, our brewery is popular on night like this, so you might want to come early and have a couple pints while you wait for the show to start!

But, best of all, our kitchen has whipped up an incredible array of spooktacular desserts that are available all week (starting today!).

cauldronCauldron of Bones: a ghoulishly delicious chocolate cauldron filled with a ghostly white chocolate mousse covered by a bloody strawberry goo and topped with skeletal remains. $5

Caramel Apple Float: a caramel rimmed pint glass filled with sparkling apple cider with a float of house-made caramel ice cream…like a liquid caramel apple!  $5  p.s. (adults can enjoy this sweet treat with just a little more bite – try it with a spire hard cider. add $3)

monsterMonster Mousse: don’t be afraid if you find your dessert looking back at you since this devilishly decadent chocolate mousse has eyes plucked from the sweetest monsters we could find. $6

Butternut Squash Créme Brulee: an award winning dessert created right here in Boundary’s kitchen!  The sweetness of butternut squash marries with the classic creme brulee to make a special Harvest time dessert that won the People’s Choice Award (for dessert!) in the Bellingham Farmers Market Squash Smackdown.  $6  (click here for the recipe!)

The Celebration of Friends

Posted on July 13, 2009 by Boundary Bay

PrintAs many of you know, Bellingham lost two vital members of its community this summer:  Gunther Frank and Sean Mansfield – known to many as Donnkie.  In a tragic boating accident, the friends went missing and their family and friends expended enormous amounts of effort and money to keep the search going for weeks after “officials” had given up.  This weekend the family and friends of Donnkie and Gunther are holding celebrations of the lives of these two dearly loved Bellinghamsters.

On Friday, the celebration will kick off at Boundary Bay Brewery with Sugar Sugar Sugar, Ladies of the Night and the All-Nighters.  There will also be a silent auction featuring deluxe donated goodies! Music will start at 8ish or so, although bidding on silent auction items starts a few hours earlier. All-ages until 10pm, then we kick the kiddies out. Suggested donation for each of the Boundary/Nightlight shows is $5. Proceeds will go to benefit the Frank/Mansfield families to offset search and memorial costs.

On Saturday, July 18, the celebration continues at the Nightlight Lounge (211 E. Chestnut St.).  There will be music by The Trucks, A Gun That Shoots Knives, Guinness and the Reparations, the Daffodils, and Go Slowpoke. Those lucky enough to attend will see a slideshow of Gunther’s and Donnkie’s lives and art.  The legendary Poops (of Bellingham Karaoke fame) will be hosting a raffle of amazing donated goods like gift certificates to local businesses and Mt. Baker tickets (plus lots more!!).  DJ AbbyNorml will spin between sets.
Then on Sunday, July 19 there will be a Skate Jam at the Bellingham’s Skate Park starting at 12:30pm.  The day will feature the sweet skate stylings of whoever wants to throw down, a photo booth, on site massage and DJ’ed music by DJ Moonboots…not to mention catering by Bay Leaf Mobile Kitchen.  And, of course, one more raffle!
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to come together with the Bellingham community and find a way to celebrate the lives of Donnkie and Gunther…who are already very, very missed.

The Long, Sweet Weekend at Boundary Bay Brewery

Posted on February 10, 2009 by Boundary Bay

For many lucky souls out there, this weekend stretches before you with the promise of an extra day off thanks to Presidents Day.  So, with all this extra time on your hands, what are you gonna do?!?  My answer…head down to Boundary Bay Brewery!  On Friday you can catch Bellingham’s own  Sugar Sugar Sugar and Portland’s The Bugs at our 10:30 pm Late Show.  Every Friday night we feature the best of local and regional music and this week, Sugar Sugar Sugar’s “…straightforward approach to making and playing music to get the audience moving and feeling good is obvious in its live show, often whipping the audience into a sweaty dancing mass with pounding drum beats punctuated with sporadic cow bell smacks, bluesy rhythmic bass lines and guitar-rock riffs with a wolf-whistle or two thrown in for good measure” (quote from What’s Up article by Chris Fuller).  And, if Friday’s show isn’t quite your style or if you’re longing for more after Sugar Sugar Sugar and The Bugs get you all worked up, come spend Valentines Day with us here at the brewery.  We’ll have music by the Mt. Baker Toppers and we’ll be offering a special dinner menu including such treats as Beef Tenderloin topped with Fried Oysters and Bernaise Sauce or Salmon with Seasonal Vegetables En Papillote.  There will be special vegetarian options available and we’ll have our normal menu options too, if our specials don’t ring your bell.  And, for those of you who aren’t into staying up late or dining with other lovers on Valentines Day, you’ve still got Sunday and Monday to come hang out in the relative peace of the usual Boundary Bay that you know and love.  Enjoy this long, sweet weekend…we sure will be here at Boundary Bay Brewry!
