Boundary Bay Brewery heads to Strange Brewfest

Posted on January 24, 2009 by Boundary Bay

Boundary Bay Brewery is hanging out in Port Townsend this weekend…please come and join us at the 5th Annual Strange Brewfest held at Water Street Ale House!  There will be sample beers from 35-40 NW breweries and music by Bellingham and Seattle’s top funk band – Lucky Brown and the Funk Revolution, and other favorites including TapWater from Portland. There will be games, food, and other surprises…plus lots of old favorite brews and several new, exciting beers to sample throughout the weekend!  I know our brewers took down some special concoctions just for this Strange Brewfest…a Ginger Peach Blond Ale and an Oak Aged Cabin Fever.  I’m salivating right now just thinking about it!  $20 bucks will get you in the door and score you a souvenir tasting glass and 4 drink tokens– including your wristband for all live music throughout the weekend. The festival takes place under a tent in the parking lot behind the brewery, right next to the water, as well as inside the brewery.  Festival times are Saturday, Jan. 24th: 1-9pm and Sunday, Jan. 25th: 1- 5pm.  Come see Boundary Bay Brewery this weekend in Port Townsend at the Strange Brewfest – hear some awesome funk, try some creative new beers, and partake in this unusual festival for true beer lovers!

Boundary Bay’s Inauguration Party!

Posted on January 23, 2009 by Boundary Bay

Fun was had by all at the Boundary Bay Brewery Inauguration Party…as you can see from the photos!  We were packed and housed a great crowd of people all eager to celebrate this historic moment in American politics.  We filmed a live broadcast for ABC who showed it on air as well as projected the footage at the official Neighborhood Ball in Washington D.C. that the Obama family was attending.  We got lots of great shots of our lively crowd, plus (as you’ll see above) a photo of Aaron Jacob Smith, our head brewer, and Mike Zielfder, one of our salesmen, showing off their patriotic zeal!  To the left, in the middle, is a great shot of our General Manager, Janet Lightner, toasting the new change taking place.  Our Inauguration Party was pulling double duty and raising money for the Bellingham Food Bank at the same time.  Admission to our little shindig was $4.40 (in honor of our 44th president!) or two items of non-perishable food donated to our local food bank.  We here at Boundary Bay Brewery feel lucky to have been part of the Inauguration Day events on a national scale, to get a chance to raise money for our community,  and to celebrate the inauguration of Barak Obama with such wonderful people in our community.

The Largest Brewpub in the Nation is Bottling Beer Today!

Posted on October 27, 2008 by Boundary Bay

Earlier this year, Boundary Bay Brewery was declared the largest brewpub in the nation (based on 2007 beer production) according to the “New Brewer,” the official publication of the Brewer’s Association, which is the national craft beer organization. Each year, the Brewers Association compile statistics based on the amount of beer barrels sold, and in the case of brewpubs, how much of that beer is sold on site.  They define a brewpub as a restaurant-brewery that sells 25% or more of its beer on site; a company would be classified as a microbrewery if its distributed beer sales exceeded 75%. Being a brewpub, we here at Boundary Bay consume most of our beer on site thanks to our loyal patrons and employees!  The second largest percentage of our beer gets distributed to restaurants and bars from Bellingham to Olympia and even into Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho.  (click here to find places that carry our beer near you!)  Once those demands are filled, we bottle what we’ve got left and sell 22 oz. bottles here at our brewery and in select grocery stores in the region.  We are finding it harder and harder to keep our 22’s in stock and we’ve been sold out even here in the brewery for a good portion of the summer.  Luckily, though, today marks the end of that sad drought!  Our brewers are working hard today to bottle our ever popular IPA and our Scotch Ale…both longtime favorites of myself and many others (as proven by our long list of awards for these two brews!).  And just about this time next month, the long awaited Cabin Fever will be available in bottles for the first (and possibly only) time all year!  Luckily, those 22’s will come out just in time to grace Thanksgiving tables everywhere!  Come on down to Boundary Bay this week to pick up some IPA and Scotch Ale to kick off your Halloween night right.  And then mark your calendars for the last week of November so you don’t miss your chance to grab everyone’s favorite Winter Warmer!
