TEDx Bellingham

Screen Shot 2013-11-06 at 11.27.42 AMTEDx is coming to Bellingham on Tuesday, Nov. 12th…you’ve probably heard the buzz around town.  A lot of people have been asking us – who’s this Ted guy?

Well, TEDx is not a guy, it’s actually a nonprofit group devoted to the theme of “Ideas Worth Spreading” and TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from these three worlds and has since developed into an even larger global phenomenon. The point of TED is to bring together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives and share their “ideas worth spreading” in a short speech. The TEDx program gives communities, organizations and individuals (like Bellingham) the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. Unlike the Ted Conferences, TEDx events are planned and coordinated independently by local community members.

The inaugural TEDxBellingham eventwill bring together dynamic thinkers, inspiring speakers, innovative musicians and performers, and Bellingham’s visionaries to celebrate our unique sense of place, and each individual’s Here by Choice life.

On Tuesday, November 12th, TEDx Bellingham will bring 19 speakers to the Pickford Film Center Stage for a full day of Ideas Worth Spreading. Tickets to TEDx Bellingham are already sold out – but there are several viewing spots around town. Because we’ll be open for business on Tuesday, we are not an “official viewing spot” but we sure didn’t want to miss out on this inaugural event! We’re going to be live streaming the whole event for free from our Taproom on the projector from 10am-5pm. Swing by, and watch for a bit! Here’s where else you can view it:

  • WWU: Viking Union Multi-Purpose Room, 516 High St. (6th floor)
  • Downtown Bellingham: The Upfront Theater, 1208 Bay St.
  • Cordata: Whatcom Community College, Syre Student Center, #107
